Amarone Opera Prima: a wine duet with Aida

If you like light opera & fine wine, here’s the perfect event for you. Amarone Opera Prima, the extraordinary and off-season event of the Consorzio Vini Valpolicella scheduled in Verona from 17th to 20th June, will see 40 historical wineries of Valpolicella ready to reveal the new 2017 vintage of the labels which have made it famous world-wide to 100 journalists and to the public, in an ideal duet between two symbols of Verona in the world: the Arena amphitheater and its Opera Festival & Amarone.

After the gala dinner at Giardino Giusti on June 17th (by invitation only), Amarone Opera Prima program opens on June 18th with two masterclasses at Palazzo Verità Poeta (Vicolo San Silvestro, 6), to discover the versatility of the king of reds and the top vintages that have contributed to its positioning in over 80 countries around the globe. The event starts at 11.30 with “Amarone 4wd, off the beaten track: different styles of Amarone combined with haute cuisine dishes from various countries of the world”, an initiative created with La Peca, the two Michelin star restaurant in Lonigo (Vi) with the food critic and wine expert, Davide Scapin. It then continues at 3.00 pm, with the session “The boom generation: the last vintages of Amarone from its escalation to global success”, conducted by JC Viens, Italian wine ambassador and Wset educator.

100 journalists from 20 nations – from the USA to the Arab Emirates, from South Korea to Canada to Israel, Singapore and the main European markets, will then attend Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida premiere in Arena under the stars.

On Sunday 19 June, Amarone Opera Prima moves to Palazzo della Gran Guardia (Piazza Bra), with the tasting of Amarone 2017 vintage (from 10.00 am to 05.00 pm for the specialized press and from 04.00 to 08.00 pm open to wine lovers and operators) and with the press conference and its focus on “Amarone and the myths of Venetian hospitality, between history and legend” (from 11 am).

On Monday 20 June, the last day of Amarone Opera Prima, the event is open to the public from 10.00 am to 08.00 pm.
