Raise your glasses: Vinitaly and the City returns from 5 to 8 April, including wine, culture, meetings and entertainment for a unique experience in the most evocative places of Verona. Between a panoramic toast at 84 meters high, an acoustic talent live with Dario Spada and Negrita, Vibrations in unplugged, meetings with guests such as Joe Bastianich, Paolo Hendel, Damiano Carrara, Patrizio Roversi, Pif, Paolo Cevoli, Fede and Tinto by Decanter, Tricarico, Frankie Hi-nrg MC, and a journey in the footsteps of Shakespeare, a review of spoken poetry, a river rafting descent with final tasting and yoga classes paired with meditation wines.
The Veronese wine fair is a regular appointment on the wine lover agenda, awaiting the debut of Vinitaly (7-10 April), the international wine fair that will involve the whole city: four days of tastings of the best Italian wines and international paired with gourmet street food specialties, all to be experienced in the city of Verona, in a path that stretches from Piazza dei Signori and Cortile Mercato Vecchio to Piazza San Zeno, the Arsenale, and Palazzo Carli. Vinitaly & the City, which also involves some evocative places in the province of Verona (Bardolino, Valeggio sul Mincio and Soave), is increasingly becoming a great opportunity to bring together young wine lovers and make them grow as conscious consumers. A format, organized by Veronafiere in collaboration with Studioventisette, which in 2018 brought over 60,000 fans to the historic center of the city along the Adige.
In the oldest Veronese squares, instead, space for enthusiasts who will find a large wine bar, special food trucks with gourmet dishes and a cultural and show program.
From Friday 5 April to Sunday 7 April in Cortile Mercato Vecchio Vinitaly and the City hosts the event “Sorsi d’Autore”, organized by the Aida Foundation: a unique opportunity to taste good wine together with some of the most important authors of the national publishing scene and international. Talk, music and champagne of small vignerons of the Alps, in the company of super hosts such as Paolo Hendel who presents the wines awarded by Verona Wine Top, Joe Bastianich, Negrita with an acoustic talent with Dario Spada, Pif, Luca Telese, Damiano Carrara and Patrizio Roversi, in a debate that will also involve spectators. All accompanied by wine tasting and tastings presented by professional sommeliers.
In the nearby Loggia di Fra ‘Giocondo, from Friday 5 to Monday 8 April, researchers from the University of Verona, from the chair, take the stage of the “GoTo Science” exhibition to tell scientific research to the public from a different and friendly perspective, in a constant and interactive dialogue. A format designed and created by the University of Verona that takes science out of the university lecture halls to tell it in front of a glass of wine. Inside the Ancient Loggia, tastings and masterclasses led by professional sommeliers: the most adventurous will be able to sip a Pinot Grigio from the top of the 84 meters of the Torre dei Lamberti, with a magnificent view of the city.
From Piazza dei Signori the festival moves to the Arsenal of Verona, amidst bubbles and large Italian reds. Saturday 6 and Sunday 7, from 12 to 13, on the lawn of the gardens of the Arsenale fountain, wine meets yoga, thanks to the Yoga and Wine lessons of the expert Linda Gastaldello. And around 21.30, the appointment is with Spoken Music, an event in collaboration with the World Academy of Poetry that combines slam-poetry, wine and music. To perform in the two evenings six young emerging artists: Simone Savogin, Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, Toi Giordani, Gabriele Stera, Alessandro Burbank and Eugenia Galli. Other special guests on stage at the fountain of the Arsenale including, on stage, Tricarico Frankie Hi-nrg MC.
For the more adventurous, the Mezzaluna del Vino also starts from the Arsenale: a descent of the Adige river by raft up to the ancient river customs, with adjoining final tasting. In Piazza San Zeno dominate the rock, folk and pop atmospheres, combined with a proposal of over 150 labels of white and rosé wines. On Saturday, Fabiola of Radio 105 will present two musical moments with Irama and Elodie. Monday night is the time of The Swing Cooking Show with several chefs alternating to reveal their secrets to comedian Paolo Cevoli, while the band Ridillo plays live songs and swing-style covers live. There is also a special tasting area with Santa Margherita and Tannico’s Double Decker: a sixties English double-decker bus transformed for the occasion into a wine & cocktail bar on four wheels.
Space also to history: at Palazzo Carli, where the annexation of the Veneto to Italy was signed, Paolo Massobrio tells (and lets taste) 100 “sustainable wines” in a four-day green event with bottles born from vines where the use of chemistry is minimized if not banned, created in cellars that are attentive to energy saving and the circular economy. To accompany the tastings, which will take place through the Winemotion dispensers launched at Expo 2015, the pairing with different cheeses of the Asiago Protection Consortium. And just from the square in front of Palazzo Carli will start a theatrical walk in the footsteps of the Bard to discover hidden corners and ties of Verona: in a real food and wine tour through the streets of Verona you will go back in time, discovering the relationship with wine in the works of Shakespeare, including Falstaff, Henry IV, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Much Ado About Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet, in a symbolic journey along the decumanus of wine.
