The Coronavirus pandemic has transitioned to the net wine fairs and trade shows. VeronaFiere’s Wine2Wine is no exception: on 21-24 November the wine fair will be on a digital platform featuring an international debate with wine companies, buyers and the world of media about the impact of Covid-19 on the wine industry and, above all, to identify solutions and a way to restart.
A number of important appointments include the “International Summit” on Saturday 21 November at 10.30 am discussing the topic “The future of wine: different visions, one perspective“. Current scenarios and possible challenges for the next decade, a live talk with top players in the Italian and international wine industry that aims to develop and strengthen effective dialogue between markets and sector operators (available on the wine2wine exhibition site, the official Vinitaly youtube channel, the VF+ platform and https://festivaldelfuturo.eu/streaming).
The trade show will be the occasion also for the presentation of the Research Project conducted by Nomisma Wine Monitor for Vinitaly Observatory which takes stock of the market and the wine business in the post – Covid era with comments by Giovanni Mantovani, CEO of Veronafiere, and Denis Pantini, Nomisma’s Agro-Food and Wine Monitor manager.
The International Summit moderated by journalist Gianluca Semprini will welcome reports by the President of ICE, Carlo Maria Ferro, the Director General of Ismea, Raffaele Borriello, the President of Veronafiere, Maurizio Danese, and the CEO of Veronafiere, Giovanni Mantovani. Two round tables are also scheduled: one will focus on the international market and the other on the Italian market. The latter event will involve Josè Rallo, Dominga Cotarella, Lamberto Frescobaldi, Ettore Nicoletto, Riccardo Pasqua and Marco Nannetti.
The event organized by Veronafiere-Vinitaly-wine2wine is included in the programme for the “Festival of the Future” (promoted by Athesis Group, Eccellenze d’Impresa and Harvard Business Review); it will be anticipated, (with start at 09:00 am), by the session focusing on the topic of “Agriculture & Innovation: the future is already here” with speakers Paolo De Castro MEP, Luigi Consiglio President of Gea, Michele Morgante, Member of the Lincei Academy, Federico Vecchioni, CEO of Bonifiche Ferraresi, and Carlo Lambro, President of New Holland Agriculture and CEO of CNH Industrial Italia. At the end of both appointments, the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Teresa Bellanova, is expected to make comments.
The afternoon of Saturday 21 November sees OperaWine 10th year anniversary also streamed on-line (available onhttps://www.wine2wine.net/programma/ by clicking on the appointment in the calendar). This event was first held in 2012 thanks to collaboration between Veronafiere, Vinitaly and the prestigious American magazine “Wine Spectator”. The special edition celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the initiative will involve 196 great Italian producers nominated, starting from 3:00 pm. The selection combines the 2020 nominees, forced to postpone until 2021 the traditional OperaWine Gran Tasting. A question and answer session will be held at the same time with Bruce Sanderson, Thomas Matthews and Alison Napjus.
The Wine2wine web platform will also host the “Assoenologi 2020 Congress Day” on Sunday 22 November, starting at 10:00 am. The President of Assoenologi, Riccardo Cotarella, will open proceedings that will take place through two separate round tables, both moderated by journalist Bruno Vespa respectively focusing on Wine & Health and Prosecco: an all-Italian phenomenon.
On the same day (Sunday 22 at 11:00 am on www.solagrifood.com as well as the official Vinitaly YouTube channel) – a physical and digital edition involving the President of Veronafiere, Maurizio Danese, and the President of the Competition Jury, Marino Giorgetti, will present the awards of the winners of “Sol d’Oro 2020“, the award of the best olive oil makers, now at its eighteenth edition.
Monday 23 November at 11:00 am welcomes the round table focused on the Italian retail sector “Wine and major retailers in the face of change” (available on the VF+ platform). During the meeting, the IRI research institute will present research into the wine market in large-scale retail distribution in the first 10 months of 2020. Representatives of Federvini, Unione Italiana Vini, Carrefour, Conad, Coop Italia and the Selex Group will take part and attempt to identify consumer purchasing trends, useful ideas for the restart, possible synergies between wine cellars and large-scale distribution brands to encourage growth in consumption and, lastly, the dynamics of Italian wine exports through large-scale international retail chains.
Monday 23 November at 12.30 will also see the streaming conference conducted by Giovanni Mantovani, CEO of Veronafiere: “Wine in the changing global scenario: the challenges for the supply chain” (available on the VF+ platform). The live talk will involve Riccardo Ricci Curbastro, President of Federdoc, Ernesto Abbona, President of the UIV-Italian Wine Union, Sandro Boscaini, President of Federvini, Luca Rigotti, national wine sector coordinator for Alleanza per le Cooperative, Matilde Poggi, President of Fivi, Roberto Luongo, Director General of ICE, and Giovanni Mantovani, CEO of Veronafiere. They will investigate the future of Italian wine and the role of representative categories in a period also faced by significant economic impacts. The webinar will also exclusive presentation of estimated closure of Italian exports and the main producing countries by Vinitaly Observatory Nomisma Wine Monitor.
On Tuesday 24 at 10:00 am there will be with a tasting for top buyers over an internet connection from Tokyo, organized by Veronafiere in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, ICE, Ferrari, Fratelli Lunelli S.p.A., Marchesi Antinori S.p.A. and Donnafugata S.r.l. The event celebrates the fifth edition of the Italian Cuisine Week in Japan and will be attended by the Italian Ambassador, Giorgio Starace, and the CEO of Veronafiere, Giovanni Mantovani.
