“Prosecco Rosè is a great opportunity for producers: there is a great expectation on foreign markets – comments Giorgio Polegato, president of the Wine Council of Coldiretti Veneto – which specifies that the target is 10% of production, or 50 million of bottles to be released on the market”.
The approval of the Mipaaf National Wines Committee on the required modification of the DOC Prosecco production regulations that introduces and recognises the Rosè sparkling wine has been welcomed by the grapegrowers of Coldiretti Veneto as a reached goal as well as an encouraging sign of the so-called Phase-2 recovery from Covid-19 pandemic in Italy. The most famous bubbles in the world can now boast a further official legal recognition and meet the taste of consumers who are increasingly attentive to the origin of this wine which is an expression of the quality of the Veneto region agri-food heritage.
“Having 14 DOCG, 29 DOC and 10 Igt as PDOs the Veneto region is at the top of national production (10m hectoliters) and exports (2.2 mild) but after the health emergency, it must face a very difficult scenario for the sector – adds Polegato – both for the consequences of the pandemic in Italy and in foreign countries where the wines of our region are traditionally appreciated and drunk. Extraordinary measures and resources must be added – insists Polegato – to ensure that Venetian viticulture, which represents a quarter of the national one, can cope with this hard times containing the damage and making a fresh start ”.
