The most famous and authentic wines made from indigenous grapes varieties are going on show next month at “Autochtona 2019”, the sixteenth edition of the trade show exclusively dedicated to the excellence of native Italian wines, held at the Bolzano Fair on October 14th and 15th. More than 80 wineries from 17 Italian regions are eager to present wines that express the unique character of the local grape varieties to an audience of wine business operators and wine lovers.

Three are the main recurring events of the trade shows: “Autochtona Awards” on Tuesday October 15th that features a jury of wine journalists and recognised experts evaluating exhibitors’ best labels and assigning the awards in six categories (from best red, best rosé to best white wine, to best sparkling and best sweet wine to the special Terroir award).

The “Tasting Lagrein” Award on Wednesday October 16th, organised in cooperation with the Alto Adige Wine Consortium, the comparative tasting dedicated to one of the most representative native red grape varieties of the area and limited to the latest vintages currently present on the market. Three prizes will be awarded to the best Lagrein wines in competition in the following categories: “Best Lagrein”, “Best Lagrein Reserve”,”Best Lagrein Rosato”.

Another rare event is “Vinea Tirolensis” of the local South Tyrol Winemakers Association “Vignaioli Alto Adige”, on Wednesday, October 16th, from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm in the area of the international trade fair for hotel and restaurant 2019 at Fiera Bolzano (lane A03). At Vinea you will meet over 70 local producers with over 350 native wines to be tasted.

“Autochtona 2019” represents an unique occasion to explore the indigenous wines of Italy in a journey between regions and territories intimately linked to varieties that have risked extinction. An opportunity to get in touch with the interesting stories of many unique producers and the dedication that lies behind the labels of their wines.
