It’s time for a new toast to the harvest 2019 in Verona and Soave, the white wine made of Gargenega grapes from Veneto, Italy, takes the spotlight this weekend. From Friday 30 August to Monday 2 September “Soave Versus 2019” enthusiasts will rejoice inside Palazzo della Gran Guardia, just beside the magnificent Arena amphitheatre in Verona, for a full immersion in the wines and in the cellars of Soave with open cooking courses, tastings, conferences and much more.
Together with the winemakers of Soave, the best regional food excellence producers will offer free tastings that perfectly match the freshness and fruitless of this wine. Over 40 wineries are attending the event offering a glass of their Soave wines, with almost 200 labels available.
From 18.00 to 22.00 until Monday, pairings of Soave wine with iconic Italian cheeses such as the Gorgonzola DOP and the local Monte Veronese, but also with typical traditional dishes such as Lasagne, or tastings of local ham “Prosciutto di Soave” with the extra-virgin olive oil from the east of Verona, will spoil the public.
Soave wine is named after the homonymous town known as Suaves, founded by the Swabians in 500 D.C. It is the first DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, i.e a quality assurance label) recognised in Veneto region.
The harvest of Soave wine will begin around the 20th of September, and will continue until mid-October, when the selected grapes from the highest hills will be collected.
